Graffiti is everywhere and once it gets a foothold it only gets worse. OPD officers tell us it is often an indication of gang activitiy, in particular the "tagging" variety which is not only the most common around here, but also the least interesting to look at - why can't we have "nice" graffiti, even the trains get better treatment for the most part.
But Oakland has people who are there to help us with getting our walls and other flat surfaces clean again. JLDA Board Member Jim Louie recently had success getting graffit near Aqua Via removed. Here is the process:
1. Call (510) 238-4703 to contact Oakland Public Works graffiti abatement.
2. Your call or incident is given ID into the computer.
3. When the incident is corrected, the ID is removed from the computer.
4. If a follow-up is needed, the ID is necessary.
5. When the problem is solved be appreciative and call to thank them
