Trash Bash V - Sunday May 23rd 2004

Trash Bash V had a good turn out of some twenty-five neighborhood Trash Bashers who turned up to help clean up the streets of the Jack London District.

Starting at 9am volunteers started equipping themselves with essential trash bashing equipment - brooms, hoes, bags, rubber gloves, dust masks and, of course, donuts.

This year had help from some of our youngest trash bashers showing it's an event for the whole family.

For three hours (and some people put in a lot of extra time - thanks!) people worked hard cleaning up many blocks around the neighborhood. Our roving coordinator Gary Knecht collected trash bags, and handed out supplies and water.

Trash was delivered to three pick up points around the district for later collection by the City Public Works department (who also loaned the equipment).

After the cleanup was finished a well earned BBQ on the roof of Tower Lofts was enjoyed by many. Once again BBQ Master Chef Steve Sacks manned the grill serving up burgers, polish sausages and hot links all donated by his company Prime Smoked Meats. In addition margaritas, home made ice cream, and light refreshments were supplied by Joanna Adler and Simon Waddington of Jack London Mail. Fruit salad, guacamole and chips were supplied by Bay Cities Produce.

Once again, a big thanks to all those turned up and made Trash Bash V a great success and a well organized and fun day for all, in particular the hardworking Trash Bash V organizers Joanna Adler and Gary Knecht.
